Graduation Streaming – Case Study

StreamExchange streamed 8 summer graduation ceremonies for Northampton University live to a global audience. Families and friends of graduands, across the globe, were able to participate in their success by watching the ceremonies streamed live online.

The University of Northampton welcomes over 1,000 international students from more than 100 different countries every year. For many it was impossible to make the trip across the world to attend the graduation ceremony. So for the first time the University broadcast the ceremonies live on the internet with StreamExchange.

A digital video media player was built into the University website to enable the live stream to be embedded directly on the page and additional videos, showcasing students' work was made available within the same player. Two ceremonies a day were broadcast and thousands of people from over 40 countries logged on to see students graduate.

StreamExchange used the latest in live streaming technology to capture and encode the footage straight to the web. Multiple cameras, vision mixing and graphics transformed the footage into a true broadcast.

Testimonials

"Unfortunately my grandparents couldn’t make it to my graduation, they would have had to travel 130 miles which wasn’t feasible. So when we found out they could watch me graduate from the comfort of their own home they were made up! Afterwards they told me that they had a brilliant view of me in my seat, as well as on stage, and couldn’t have been any prouder!”
Jodie, Graduate, The University of Northampton

“The feedback of the web streaming we received through social media sites and from colleagues was very favourable, and this was to be expected given the excellent working relationship we had with StreamExchange. The University is already beginning to work with StreamExchange to consider developments in this area for our next set of ceremonies in February 2012”.
